Q3 Message from the Chair

Dear WWLI Members:

Happy 100th!

August 18th marked the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment that gave women equal voting rights as men. 

Since then, women of all races, ages, and backgrounds paved new roads for equality in all aspects of their lives, impacting the lives of so many that came after them.  This struggle continues today.  Whether it is for equal pay, or for a “seat” at the table, women continue marching forward making progress every day for ourselves and for those that will come after us.

In 2018, the state of California passed a law that mandates female representation on corporate boards.  Over the past 2 years, as many as 10 other states have followed suit, and have passed, or are in the process of passing, similar legislature in their states.  Late last year, Maryland passed the “Gender Diversity on Boards” bill while New York passed legislation that authorized a study on the number of women on corporate boards.  Massachusetts, Hawaii, Washington State, Michigan, and New Jersey are currently considering similar legislations that will require gender-diversity on corporate boards.

WWLI is well positioned to support this movement! 

WWLI Executive membership program is designed to help women leaders prepare for and find corporate board seats.  The Executive member program helps women leaders evaluate and examine their strengths and their passion to prepare for and find the perfect board position.  It is a win-win.  Since this WWLI program began almost 3 years ago, several WWLI Executive Members have found corporate board seats.  We expect that with the passing of these state laws for gender diversity in corporate boards, our Executive members will be in high demand!

What other ways can you help to move women forward? 

  • Join a committee. Use your expertise in a manner that truly makes a difference for WWLI, and the women and men working hard to keep diversity a continued priority. We have several committee opportunities available for 2021.
  • Invite a guest.  Ask a colleague, friend, or client to attend one of our excellent events. Click here for upcoming events.
  • Serve on the board. Drive WWLI forward by working with other talented individuals looking to make a difference.  Please send an email to [email protected] and request the board application and package. Submit your application by October 1st to be considered for 2021 board. Please note you must an active member and have participated in a WWLI committee for 1 year to be considered for Board service.
  • Become a sponsor. Use WWLI as a dynamic platform to add value, grow your pipeline, engage your employees, and deepen relationships by sponsoring an event or becoming an annual sponsor.  For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please email [email protected].

It has been a very active quarter for WWLI so far with 10 successful events in July and August.  In September we have three more very exciting events planned.  Please check them out here.  

As I look back at where we were at the beginning of 2020 (pre-COVID) and look at where we are headed now, I am left with one thought:

Gratitude.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this organization that continues the work that began 100 years ago by so many before us.   

I am grateful to work alongside other passionate women leaders and supporters, from whom I learn every day.

I am grateful to you, WWLI members, board members and sponsors, for your support, Engagement, Commitment, Communication and Transparency (EC2T).
