Q1 2019 Message from the Chair

“The focus on the strength, courage and power of women in our society is surging right now, creating an environment ripe for our work to make an even greater and enduring impact for women in leadership.”

 Christine Dellecave, WWLI 2018 Chair

2019 marks our 5th anniversary - we are celebrating powerful events from the past and an exciting future ahead.

Created by WWLI’s visionary founder Carolyn Thompson and most recently led by our talented immediate Past Chair, Christine Dellecave, we at WWLI are proud to continue a tradition of helping even more women and minorities connect, grow, and lead their organizations.

In addition to our traditional priorities for WWLI, including driving member engagement, expanding sponsorship and growing our successful Women on Boards program, our board of directors has declared a new intention for 2019: making inclusion, diversity and engagement (IDE) a top priority with each WWLI experience.

We are off to a great start with IDE for our first two events of the year: 1) the dynamic Rodarte Exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in January, and 2) a powerful viewing of Robin Hauser’s documentary, “Bias” in February.  Both events showcased cutting-edge work and was followed by robust conversations that broke down stereotypes and biases we all carry. You can expect continued important topics and perspectives vital to your leadership role and industry that support an array of viewpoints on inclusion, diversity and engagement.

Achieving our ambitious list of priorities this year depends on each of you, too.

We encourage you to continue participating in our monthly events, C-Suite Meet and Greets, and quarterly newcomers’ luncheons. We are grateful to you, our members, sponsors and board members, for sharing your time, energy and ideas that continue to contribute to our collective success.  We are excited you choose to be a part of WWLI’s rich history.

Please join us for our next event, "Living a Life of Service and Advocacy with the Founder and President of Phone2Action, Ximena Hartsock on March 6 in Tysons Corner.  Sponsored by Greenberg Traurig, this topic will allow us yet another opportunity to engage with diverse members and mindsets as we continue growing this meaningful community.

On behalf of the entire Board of WWLI, thank you for your ongoing support of this important, mission-driven organization.

What impact will you make with us this year?

Sarah Happel

WWLI Chair
